Sri Jayewardenepura MV in Tier ‘B’ semis
Sri Jayewardenepura MV, Kotte advanced to the semi-finals of the Inter-School Under-19 Division II Tier ‘B’ Cricket Tournament when they recorded a convincing 9-wicket win over President’s College, Kotte in their quarter-final encounter concluded at Kalutara yesterday.
Sri Jayewardenepura MV, resuming from their overnight score of 184-7, went on to make 243. President’s, batting for the second time and tasked with erasing a deficit of 98 runs, managed to wipe it off but were bowled out for 128. This left Sri Jayawardenapura MV needing just 31 runs for victory. They reached the target after losing just one wicket in the eighth over.
Meanwhile, in another quarter-final at Maggona, Sri Sumangala Central, Hikkaduwa, after conceding a first-innings lead to Revatha MMV, Balapitiya, bounced back strongly in their second innings. Half centuries from Mathan Sujitharan and Sanjana Nethupul helped them post a formidable 327-9 before declaring.
Chasing a daunting target of 304, Revatha MMV ended day two on 96-7. The match appears to be heading towards a win for Sri Sumangala Central, with Revatha MMV requiring a further 208 runs with just three wickets in hand when play resumes on the final day today.
