Scouting to be extended to smaller schools
View(s):The Education Ministry is considering requests to expand Scouting to smaller schools in the outstations.
At present, The Scout movement is confined to bigger schools with events such as jamborees and overseas exchange tours confined to students in such schools.
Deputy Minister of Education Madura Seneviratne said that there have been requests for students of smaller schools to be also given such opportunities as well as financial assistance to participate in jamborees and overseas visits.
The Commissioner of Scouts as well as parents and principals have made these requests.
“The government has agreed to this request and will take measures to extend the same facilities to smaller schools,” he said. (DW)
