More civil servants receive training in India
View(s):A batch of 40 senior Sri Lanka civil service officers took part in a training programme conducted by India.
The training was keeping with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Centre for Good Governance of India (NCGG) and Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA).
The agreement was signed during President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s visit to India in December 2024, for training and capacity building of 1,500 officers over a period of five years.
The 8th programme under the MoU was recently held from March 9-20 at NCGG, and was attended by 40 officers. Based on a request from the Sri Lanka Government, the focus of this programme was on disaster management, to complement rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in Sri Lanka in the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah.
Participants engaged in expertled interactive sessions covering key areas relating to disaster management such as disaster preparedness and mitigation strategies; preparedness and early warning systems; response mechanism and field operations; Sendai Framework; building State capacity to manage disasters; post-disaster need assessment; and community involvement in disaster management.
The participants also undertook field visits to key institutions such as the National Disaster Management Authority, National Disaster Response Force, Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, and PM Gati Shakti Experimental Centre.
