Nemindu’s century leads Nalanda’s strong reply

Nemindu Akmeemana struck an unbeaten 112 as Nalanda College made a strong reply, reaching 278-4 on the second day of the 96th Battle of the Maroons played at the SSC Grounds. The left-hander’s brilliant knock came off 194 balls with 13 boundaries and a six. During his impressive knock, Nemindu shared two valuable partnerships — 111 runs for the fourth wicket with skipper Osanda Pamuditha, who made 55 with six boundaries, and an unbroken stand of 105 runs for the fifth wicket with Mihin Zoysa, who remained unbeaten on 43.
Earlier in the day, Ananda, resuming from their overnight score of 325-5, added a further 33 runs for the loss of three wickets before declaring their innings following the dismissal of overnight batsman Nethula Edirimanne. Nethula, who had resumed unbeaten on 150, added only another 15 runs before being dismissed for 165, an innings that included 17 boundaries and a six.
However, an inevitable draw appears to be on the cards when play resumes on the final day, unless something dramatic takes place.
