Matheesha Anurudda and Mihin Lakdinu produced match-saving knocks to rescue Piliyandala Central and secure a draw against traditional rivals Taxila Central, Horana, in the 24th Battle of Salpiti-Raigam Korala big match which concluded at the De Zoysa Stadium in Moratuwa yesterday.

Matheesha played a dogged 209-ball innings of 88, striking eight boundaries, and was involved in two crucial partnerships. He added 119 runs for the second wicket with Mihin, who scored a valuable 55, and later shared a 43-run stand for the third wicket with Induwara Heshan. Their resistance enabled Piliyandala Central, who were asked to follow on, to finish the day on 203-4.

Earlier, Piliyandala Central were bundled out for a modest 103 in their first innings after resuming from their overnight score of 67-5, in reply to Taxila Central’s imposing total of 280.
