‘La Bamba! The Song of Veracruz’, a West End-licensed musical inspired by the music, movement and storytelling traditions of Mexico will run from April 24 to 28,  with seven performances across five days at Cinnamon Life’s Forum, a purpose-built venue seating over 900.

Cinnamon Life, in collaboration with the John Keells Foundation and in association with Nations Trust Bank, announced the Sri Lankan staging of the musical on Thursday. For Cinnamon Life, the production marks a significant milestone in its cultural programming. Speaking at the press conference, Kamal Munasinghe, Senior Vice President – Colombo City Hotels and General Manager of Cinnamon Life, said, “With this production, we are positioning Cinnamon Life at City of Dreams as an entertainment and cultural hub for Colombo, capable of hosting world-class performances under one roof.”

Echoing this vision, Dileep Mudadeniya, Senior Vice President – Global Alliances & Partnerships and Head of Corporate Affairs at John Keells Holdings, highlighted the broader impact of such initiatives. “By building cultural attractions of this nature on a continuous basis, we add long-term value to the city. We have also seen how much talent Sri Lanka has, and we have a great opportunity to showcase that talent on an international platform,” he said.

Presented in partnership with London-based theatre company Paul Morrissey Ltd, ‘La Bamba!’ brings West End-aligned creative direction and production quality to Sri Lanka. The musical features a cast of 19 performers, six live musicians, and a production crew of over 40, supported by full-scale stage design and choreography.

A highlight of the production is the local participation. Auditions will be held in Sri Lanka to source part of the cast, creating opportunities for performers to work within an international professional framework. Veteran theatre practitioner Jerome de Silva, Associate Director for the local cast, noted, “We have always had the talent in Sri Lanka. What we lacked were the resources and opportunities to work with global productions.”

The production represents a “true marrying of DNAs,” blending West End expertise with the local talent. Aspiring performers are encouraged to register for local auditions, with full details available on www.cinnamonboxoffice.com.

Tickets are available at www.cinnamonboxoffice.com, with a 10% discount for purchases made using Nations Trust Bank American Express or MasterCard credit cards. With a limited run, audiences are encouraged to book early for a musical experience that brings the pulse of the West End to Colombo.
