Universiti Malaya team to visit Rajarata University

A delegation from the Faculty of Education, Universiti Malaya (UM), Malaysia, will visit Rajarata University, Sri Lanka, for 05 days (30 January 2026-04 February 2026) under the coordination of Dr Mohammad Ismath Ramzy, a Sri Lankan working at Universiti Malaya (UM).

As of 2026, Universiti Malaya (UM) stands as a global powerhouse in higher education, currently ranked 58 in the world (QS World University Rankings 2026). As Malaysia’s oldest and premier research university, UM is a hub of innovation, cultural diversity, and academic prestige.

Key Character of UM

UM has reached its highest-ever global position at 58, placing it in the top 1% of universities worldwide. It is the national leader in key areas, including Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, and International Research.

This delegation visit aims to improve academic and research collaboration between Rajarata University and Universiti Malaya as well staff and academic exchange programmes. Under the UM motto as ‘leader.’

The UM said it likes to support Asian universities and has worked with several Sri Lankan universities, including the University of Colombo, the University of Jayawardanapura, the University of Peradeniya, the University of Moratuwa, the South Eastern University, the Buddhists and Pali University, as well as academic institutions like Jamiah Naleeemiah for decades.

More than 120 Sri Lankan students have so far graduated with PhD and Master’s degrees in various areas of study, including Medicine, Engineering, Education, IT, Arts, and Religious Studies.

The current delegation from UM has been coordinated by Dr Ramzy, a Sri Lankan working in the faculty of Education at UM, and Rev. Vinita, a lecturer at Rajarata University who is currently pursuing a master’s degree in English Linguistics at UM.

This is Dr Ramzy’s 182nd collaborative programmes with Sri Lankan Universities since 2014. He has organised several programmes with Sri Lankan universities, including staff development workshops, research training, visits, and research collaborations. Currently, five

Sri Lankan experts are working in different faculties at Universiti Malaya, while more than 17
Sri Lankan students are studying in the Medical, Engineering, Law, Education, Arts, and IT faculties.
