Student stationery allowance to continue in 2026

The cabinet has given the go ahead to implement a programme to provide an allowance to school children to obtain stationery for 2026.

In 2025, the government provided Rs 6,000 per child for stationery for children from families entitled to Aswesuma. The same amount was given per child for students studying in schools which had less than 300 students who are not included in the Aswesuma welfare programme. The allowance was also given to students in piriven, seelamatha monasteries and students in child development centres.

The cabinet approved the proposal to implement the allowance for 2026 as well. -KW
