Sri Lanka’s ambition to strengthen its position as a regional trade and investment hub received renewed momentum with the official launch of Sri Lanka Expo 2026, an international exhibition aimed at showcasing the country’s export capabilities and investment potential to global markets.

Announced by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) on January 9, the Expo is scheduled to be held from June 18 to 21, 2026, at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH). The launch also marked the unveiling of the official website, www.srilankaexpo.lk, enabling both local exhibitors and international buyers to register online.

The official launch ceremony took place at Cinnamon Life at the City of Dreams, Colombo, under the patronage of Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunnetti, with the participation of several Cabinet and Deputy Ministers, senior government officials, diplomats, representatives of international organisations, financial institutions, chambers of commerce and exporters from both the public and private sectors.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Handunnetti described Sri Lanka Expo 2026 as a strategic initiative aligned with national economic priorities. “Sri Lanka Expo 2026 is not just an event, it is a platform where our policies, our products and our people come together to create real business opportunities in international markets,” he said.

The Expo is expected to attract around 750 local exporters and 1,500 international buyers, investors and media representatives, providing a large-scale platform for trade engagement and partnership building. According to the EDB, the exhibition is designed to build buyer confidence, expand market access and support Sri Lanka’s long-term export growth strategy, including the national target of achieving US$36 billion in exports by 2030.

Speaking on the significance of the event, EDB Chairman and CEO Mangala Wijesinghe said the Expo would offer exporters an opportunity to expand into new markets and move up the value chain, while giving international buyers and investors direct access to Sri Lanka’s products, skilled workforce and business environment.

Sri Lanka Expo 2026 will feature a comprehensive range of sectors across industrial exports, agricultural exports and export services. Industrial showcases will include apparel and textiles, gems and jewellery, boat building, engineering and automotive components, rubber and polymer products, electrical and electronic goods, pharmaceuticals and mineral-based products. Agricultural exports will highlight tea, spices, coconut products, fisheries, processed foods and beverages, ayurvedic and herbal products, horticulture and ornamental fish, while export services will cover ICT/BPM, maritime and logistics, construction, renewable energy, wellness and healthcare services.
