Each year as December approaches, Park Street transforms into one of Colombo’s most atmospheric enclaves, and at its heart stands Park Street Gourmet, a store that has quietly built a reputation as the city’s go-to spot for festive treats and gourmet ingredients.

Now entering its eighth year, its shelves are lined with an extensive array of festive favourites. Visitors will find Christmas cake, love cake, Christmas pudding, panettone, nougat, marzipan blocks and bites, Danish cookies, candy canes, chocolate coins, Advent calendars, bonbons, and Santa-themed chocolates. A wide variety of imported chocolates adds an extra layer of luxury to the selection.

Seasonal bakery items play a big role too, with Yule logs and Breudher available on pre-order. The store is also offering pre-cooked turkey this year, making holiday entertaining more convenient for busy households. For those assembling festive platters and grazing boards, Park Street Gourmet carries an impressive range of gourmet cheeses from the UK, Holland, and Denmark. These are complemented by an extensive selection of cold cuts, making it easy to put together an elegant spread.

The store also stocks premium proteins for Christmas lunches and dinners, including Australian lamb, Australian steaks, smoked salmon, and salmon steaks. These items have become seasonal favourites, catering to traditional holiday menus as well as more contemporary dining tables.

Park Street Gourmet’s hampers remain the highlight of the season, with demand increasing year after year. “Our forte during the season has always been our hampers,” says Director of Operations, Johanne De Zilwa. “Business has grown from strength to strength, and people keep coming back because they know the quality and the variety they get here.”

The store has refined the craft of festive gifting by blending thoughtfully sourced international products with items from local producers — a balance that became even more important after the pandemic, when the store strengthened its support for homegrown brands through its “Love Sri Lanka” initiative. This blend of global and local flavours now forms the heart of Park Street Gourmet’s Christmas range, with the store seeing strong demand for personalised hampers. Customers mix and match from an extensive selection of cheeses, cold cuts, chocolates, meats, and festive treats to create bespoke gifts tailored to their taste.

Starting at Rs 10,000, the hampers are designed with versatility in mind and are available in several categories: Non-alcoholic (food and beverages), Food-Only, Food and Wine, and Wine-Only. Each hamper showcases variety and presentation, and every one features at least one Christmas-themed item such as panettone, marzipan, or Christmas pudding capturing the festive spirit.
