Methuka, Haamid shine for Colombo South

Skipper Methuka Gunaratne and Haamid Afdhal shone for Colombo South U15 in their convincing 87-run win over Kandy U15 in the Sri Lanka Youth League Limited Overs Tournament encounter played at the Malay CC ground in Colombo yesterday. Methuka struck a superb 82 off 91 balls, including four boundaries and seven sixes, while Haamid produced a quickfire 67 off 48 deliveries, which featured four boundaries and six sixes.

The duo shared valuable partnerships, with Methuka adding 61 runs for the fourth wicket with Chenuka Mithsara and a further 72 for the fifth wicket with Ranuda Ranasinghe. Haamid then contributed to a 52-run stand for the seventh wicket with Sanuga Dilmika, followed by a brisk 32-run partnership for the eighth wicket with Gagan Gamage, helping Colombo South U15 post a formidable total of 265 after choosing to bat first. In reply, Kandy U15 lost four early wickets on 67, placing them under immediate pressure. They never recovered and were eventually dismissed for 178, as Colombo South U15 coasted to their second successive victory. Galle U15 recorded a close 24-run win over Dambulla U15 in another match played at Campbell Park. Batting first, Galle U15 made 150, while Dambulla U15, in their run chase, managed only 126.

Two matches are scheduled for today, with Dambulla U15 facing unbeaten Colombo South U15 at the Malay CC ground, and Kandy U15 meeting Colombo North U15 at the University grounds in Colombo.
