Sherene’s comeback in UK
Former Sri Lanka and Fed Cup tennis player Sherene Wijesingha clinced the Branksome Park Tennis Club Open Women’s Singles Championship later in September, making a strong comeback after a brief absence from the sport. Competing under unfamiliar weather conditions, Sherene showcased her experience and unwavering determination throughout the tournament, defeating three strong British opponents to claim the Women’s Singles title.
She defeated B. Ania 7/5, 6/4 in the quarter-final and went on to beat L. Lauren 6/3, 6/3 in the semi-final to set up a final berth against B. Leia. The title decider game was a tightly contested three-setter that lasted for over three hours, where she overcame her opponent by 7/6, 6/7 and 10/1 in a thrilling tiebreak to secure the crown.
