The Colombo International Container Terminals (CICT) and China Merchants Charitable Foundation (CMCF) reaffirmed their enduring commitment to developing wheelchair tennis in the country through a special visit to the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) headquarters in Colombo.

The event brought together key figures from both organisations, including Huang Yi, Secretary General of the China Merchants Charitable Foundation, Jan Zhang, the CEO of CICT and Catriona Jayasundara, Chief Commercial Officer of CICT.

Catriona Jayasundara (CCOw, CICT), Huang Yi (Secretary General, China Merchants Charitable Foundation), Jan Zhang (CEO, CICT), and SLTA President Iqbal Bin Issac, along with SLTA officials and Sri Lanka wheelchair tennis players at the SLTA headquarters

Since 2009, the China Merchants Charitable Foundation, established by the China Merchants Group, has focused on improving livelihoods and promoting sustainable social development. Through CICT’s continued support, the SLTA has been able to nurture and expand its wheelchair tennis programme, helping Sri Lanka produce several internationally ranked athletes in recent years.

“CICT’s support has been the backbone of wheelchair tennis in Sri Lanka. Their belief in the power of sport to change lives has created lasting opportunities for our differently abled athletes, who continue to inspire the nation with their strength and pride,” said SLTA President Iqbal Bin Issac.

As the country hosts the 17th UNIQLO International Wheelchair Tennis Tournament (ITF Future Series) this year, the partnership between SLTA, CICT, and CMCF continues to serve as a model for sports-driven social transformation. CICT’s sponsorship extends to high-profile tournaments such as the BNP Paribas World Team Cup Asian Qualifier, and the Negombo Open, Colombo Open, and Sri Lanka Open.
