Perera faces Pakistan’s Malik in Sri Lanka Amateur final
Sri Lanka’s one-time champion Chanaka Perera stormed into his third final at the 134th Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship 2025, and will face Saad Habib Malik of Pakistan in today’s title clash at the Royal Colombo Golf Club. In the Women’s Championship, Kaya Daluwatte will meet Asara Sawhney in the final after both produced commanding wins. In the Plate event, Viv Fowler Watt claimed honours with a 4/2 victory over Aaraadhi Samaratatne.

Chanaka Perera
Perera, employed at Sitrek Group, won this championship in 2020, finished runner-up in 2023, and is now eyeing a second crown. His steady path included a win over Lavindu Premaratna at the 19th hole, another 19th hole victory against Husni Uwise, a 5/4 triumph over Kushal Johnpillai, and a tense battle at the 19th against Chalitha Puspika. He booked his final spot with a narrow 1 up win over fellow Sri Lankan Sachin de Silva in the semi-final yesterday.
On the other side, Pakistan’s Saad Habib Malik proved his class. He crushed M.D. Sanjeewa 7/6, beat Jacob Norton 3/2, and later outplayed India’s Vivaan Ubhayakar. Yesterday, in the semi-final, he ended the run of Sri Lanka’s top junior golfer Reshan Algama, winning by 3/2.
Sachin de Silva displayed fine form to reach the semi-finals before losing to Perera, while Reshan Algama impressed with victories over G.W.A.J. Wijenayake (4/3) and Prince Bainsla of India (5/3) before bowing out to Malik. Last year’s champion Jevahn Sathasivam exited earlier in the knockouts.
The final day today promises a dramatic finish, with Perera facing Malik in a Sri Lanka-Pakistan showdown, and Daluwatte meeting Sawhney for the Women’s crown. The event is organised by Sri Lanka Golf and sponsored by CEAT Europe Range.
