Digital Economy Experience Centre in October
The Ministry of Digital Economy will be launching the Digital Economy Experience Centre next month, top officials said.
This centre will have applications that are using platforms such as the digital ID for a user experience for the public, Deputy Minister, Digital Economy Engineer, Eranga Weeraratne, told The Sunday Times Business. “We plan to launch it in the third week of next month,” he said. Prototype proof of concepts will be displayed at the centre, which will be housed at the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA). The ministry also plans to have about three mobile units of the same centre.
“The public will be able to experience how their lives will change with the Sri Lanka Unique Digital ID (SLUD), especially beginning with accessing state Institutions and the services,” Mr. Weeraratne added.
Traffic fines to be paid through the Gov Pay application will be expanded to more than three regions this year, he said. They are likely to be North, Central, Northwestern and Southern Province. Currently, the application has onboarded 132 state institutions.
ICTA officials said that next week the application will be onboarding Southern Province, all divisional secretaries, etc. Sri Lanka Tourism Development Board and the Central Environment Authority will be next, they added.
Onboarding the Ministry of Justice and the Urban Development Authority is also ongoing. By the end of this month, the ICTA plans to onboard some institutions in the Northern Province as well, the officials said.
