Towering feat for DSS swimmers
View(s):With just six swimmers in their squad, D.S. Senanayake College’s junior team produced a remarkable performance to claim the second runners-up title at the 49th Sri Lanka Junior and Senior National Swimming Championships 2025 held at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex recently.
This is the school’s best result in the Junior Men’s category since they lifted the championship trophy in 2012, reaffirming D.S. Senanayake College’s place among Sri Lanka’s top swimming schools. The determined squad competed in 25 individual events and four relays, advancing to 14 finals –10 individual and four relay events — and finishing with three podium places. Leading the way was Tharuka Salgadu, who delivered a stunning all-round display by winning gold in the 50m breaststroke, silver in the 100m breaststroke and bronze in the 200m breaststroke. The team featured Tharuka Salgadu, Luqman Aslam, Chalinu Fernando, Senuka Bometh, Lakindu Paul and Savinu Fernando. The team’s success came under the expert guidance of Head Coach Ramesh, a former D.S. Senanayake College captain and member of the 2012 champion squad.
