Cabinet paper on global tourism promotion next week
The Tourism Ministry will submit the paper on the global tourism promotion campaign next week to the Cabinet but it is likely to take over a year to launch this campaign once approved.
Deputy Tourism Minister Ruwan Ranasinghe speaking with The Sunday Times Business said the government’s intention is to call for fresh tenders for the conduct of a global tourism promotion campaign.
“We are going to launch a new global marketing campaign and this needs to be cleared by the Cabinet first, which will be submitted next week,” Deputy Minister Ranasinghe said.
He noted they will then call for tenders for concept development, following which production of the campaign will take place and then a digital marketing campaign will be carried out. He noted that this campaign needs to be taken to all international markets and platforms, and as such this will require a new promotion.
This will take at least a minimum one year to launch, Mr. Ranasinghe said. The tourism industry has been awaiting the launch of a global marketing and promotion campaign ever since the war ended in 2009.
Several campaigns mooted had not been launched successfully and the last one that was developed and likely to have been launched just a month after the Presidential elections was put on hold by the new government.
Following this the procurement procedure was considered questionable and as a result authorities believed that a new campaign needs to be launched.
