The revival of ‘Little Hut’, one of the pioneering nightclubs of the island, at the legendary Mount Lavinia Hotel, was a vibrant tribute to a bygone era, regeneration the glamour, music and spirit that once defined Colombo’s nightlife.

The ‘Hut’, as it has been fondly known for decades, officially reopened its doors on Friday, 27th June, with a spectacular retro night that brought back the magic of a golden era. The event featured a live performance by ‘Inner Vision’, led by the veteran Benjy Ranabahu, who delivered a nostalgic tribute to The Beatles along with an unforgettable line-up of early rock ’n’ roll, pop classics, and timeless hits from the ’60s and ’70s. The night drew an enthusiastic crowd—long-time patrons who once danced the nights away at The Little Hut, alongside a new generation of music lovers eager to experience the enduring charm of this iconic retro club.

‘The Hut’ will now come alive every Friday and Saturday with themed nights featuring a variety of musical acts, catering to a wide spectrum of genres from the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s. Themed evenings aim to recreate the distinctive sounds and styles of each era, offering something for every retro music lover.

On Friday, 4th July, in celebration of American Independence Day, the theme was aptly titled ‘American – 90s Rewind’, featuring iconic tracks from the vibrant decade of American pop, rock, and R&B, dished out by the dynamic band ‘Inner Vision’.  The band ‘Inner Vision’, fronted by Benjy Ranabahu alongside Lelum Ratnayake and Indika, are no strangers to Hut’s legendary stage.

The revived ‘Little Hut’ now offers two distinctive experiences, where guests can dance the night away inside the vibrant, disco-lit club space or relax by the beach under the stars. Entry is completely free, and one of the standout highlights of the night was the affordably priced, hand-crafted wood-fired pizzas, a delicious complement to the nostalgic atmosphere and timeless music.

‘The Little Hut was once Colombo’s most happening night venue, filled with music, joy and unforgettable memories. We’re thrilled to bring it back, not just as a tribute to its past, but as a living, breathing part of Colombo’s nightlife once again’ said Anura Dewapura, the Chief Operating Officer of the Mount Lavinia Hotel. Now open every Friday and Saturday from 7.00pm onwards, ‘The Little Hut’ brings together the spirit of the past with the vibrancy of today.
