‘Drishyam’ legend Mohanlal meets his Lankan counterpart

Renowned Malayalam actor and filmmaker Mohanlal Viswanathan, who immortalised the lead role in the original ‘Drishyam’ (2013), recently met Bimal Jayakody, the Sri Lankan actor stepping into his shoes in ‘Dharmayuddhaya 2’ — the Sinhala remake and sequel to the acclaimed thriller.While Mohanlal is here for film ‘Patriot’, his encounter with Bimal Jayakody, who plays Harishchandra, the Sri Lankan equivalent of his ‘Drishyam’ character, symbolised a passing of the torch between two powerful cinematic cultures.
‘Meeting Mohanlal — the lead actor of the Malayalam Drishyam and an Indian superstar — was one of life’s most precious moments. At a time when I am enacting the same character for the Sri Lankan version, blessings from the film legend Mohanlal became a huge boost for this journey’ said Bimal Jayakody, reflecting on the heartfelt interaction.
A ‘Padma Bhushan’ recipient and a titan of Indian cinema, Mohanlal has starred in over 400 films across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, spanning a prolific career of over four decades. During the meeting, he extended his warmest wishes to Bimal and the ‘Dharmayuddhaya 2’ team, expressing his support for the film’s reimagining in Sri Lanka.
The meeting took place at the iconic Galle Face Hotel in Colombo, sparking excitement in the local film community. Mohanlal is currently in Sri Lanka for the filming of ‘Patriot’, a major upcoming Indian production set to release in eight Indian languages. The film features an ensemble of South Indian stars including Mammootty, Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara, Zarin Shihab, and Revathi.
