Memories etched in copper & drawings

“Copper is a convenient medium for me…..I express myself through similes and metaphors, through distortions and blending of different shapes, I give expression to what I cannot say,” writes artist V. Vimal (creation pictured on cover page)  whose sculptures are featured in the new exhibition ‘Mindscapes – Dreams and Memories’ at the Barefoot Gallery, along with works on paper by T. Krishnapriya.

Their joint exhibition opened on Thursday with an interested gathering closely examining their works.

“My work is an autobiographical exploration of childhood memories and lived experiences…. Through the meticulous process of embossed drawing, I etch my past into tangible form. Each drawn line becomes a marker of a memory – each impression a story – reflecting the tactile and enduring nature of personal recollections,” Krishnapriya notes.

“Embossing into various surfaces allows me to manifest the imprints of trauma and memory. Each mark is a trace of an experience, shaped by the complexities of personal history and the erosion of cultural traditions over time. My work reflects the dual nature of memory: its capacity to carry the weight of trauma and its role in preserving cultural practices,” Krishnapriya adds.

The exhibition continues until July 26.
