Several world-famous architects will visit Sri Lanka in October for an international conference, as the country won the bid against Germany to host the 2025 American Institute of Architects (AIA) international conference.

It will be held from October 9 to 11 at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel.

This will be the second time Sri Lanka is hosting this international event. In August 2023, the Sri Lanka Chapter of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), in collaboration with AIA International, hosted the conference in Sri Lanka.

For this year’s conference, Evelyn Lee, the national president of the 100,000-member AIA, and Saifudeen Bin Ahamed, president of the 22-member-state Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA), have confirmed their participation, the organisers say.

Star architects invited to the conference — one of the largest gatherings of architects — include Moshe Safdie, Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas, Ma Ya Song, Ken Yeang, Simon Alford, Billie Tsien, Junya Ishigami, Nadia Tromp, Brinda Somaya, Adrianta Aziz, and Fawad Abbasis.
