Wesley College continued their unbeaten run in the Dialog Schools Rugby League 2025 with a powerful 24-3 win over St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota in their Week 3 clash played at Nittawela yesterday.

Wesley’s game plan was simple but effective — strong forwards, smart kicking, and clinical finishing. Their defence stood like a brick wall, while the forwards bulldozed through Antonians with grit and discipline.

It was Wesley centre Mohamed Fawaz, who broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, sliced through the Antonian defence with a daring run and dived over for an unconverted try. That 5-0 lead set the tone for the match. St. Anthony’s responded with a penalty from fullback Kalpa Lakmina in the 23rd minute to close the gap to 3-5, but it was short-lived.

Wesley’s hooker, the bulky and fearless Kesara Rahul, powered over from a rolling maul to score their second try, and fullback Abulla Haadhi added the extras with a pinpoint conversion. Wesley took control with a 12-3 lead at the break.

Wesley kept the momentum going after the restart. A converted try in the 37th minute saw them stretch the lead to 19-3. Then, in the 50th minute, their captain and No.8 Sandul Gammanpila charged through with a classic forwards’ maul to seal the bonus-point try. Though unconverted, it gave Wesley a commanding 24-3 cushion.

Despite going down to 14 men in the 52nd minute after Kesara Rahul was shown the yellow card, Wesley’s defence stood firm. They played smart rugby, kicking to the corners, slowing the game down, and denying Antonians any chance of a comeback.

At the final whistle, it was a dominant 24-3 victory for Wesley — four tries and two conversions against a solitary penalty — as they continued to rise as strong title contenders this season.
