Suspended Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon is to testify before the committee appointed to inquire into allegations of misconduct and gross abuse of power of his office tomorrow.

Sixteen witnesses including former as well as serving police officers have been listed to give evidence.

Mr Tennakoon’s  lawyer S.Weerawickrema had sought permission to call the witnesses to testify first, but the committee headed by Supreme Court judge Preethi Padman Surasena had rejected the request and directed that Mr Tennakoon should give evidence first.

The three-member committee appointed to probe the allegations against Mr Tennakoon includes Justice Neil Iddawela and Chairman of the National Police Commission Lalith Ekanayake.
