The island lit up in honour of Poson on Tuesday as people from all faiths and all walks of life came together to engage in meritorious ceremonies and events.

In Ambagahamulla the Matale Divisional Secretariat organised a Bakthi Gee (devotional song) programme that was performed by children representing multiple religions.

The Wijeya Group conducted its annual light offering ceremony in Thanthirimale

The programme was conducted with the participation of members of the Tri-Nikaya Buddhist clergy, other religious representatives, and was held under the patronage of Deputy Minister of Buddha Sasana, Religious, and Cultural Affairs, Gamagedara Dissanayake.

Among those present were Matale District Secretary L.P. Madanayake, Matale Divisional Secretary B.P. Senadheera, other government officials, schoolchildren, and members of religious and community organisations.

The event was organised by the Cultural Division of the Matale Divisional Secretariat, under the guidance of Divisional Secretary B.P. Senadheera.

In Thanthirimale, the Wijeya Group conducted its annual light offering ceremony. The event was attended by representatives of the government, local officials, clergy, and company heads at Wijeya Newspapers. Guests presented gifts to the Dhamma school children, and students of Sri Vimala Gnana Vidyalaya performed devotional songs, as the temple was decorated in a sea of colourful lights.

Those who attended the event included Senior Police Superintendent of the Anuradhapura Division, Thilina Hewapathirana; Chief Incumbent of the Pugoda Bodhimala Viharaya, Ven. Nikawela Vajira Nayaka Thera; Minister of Trade, Food Safety, and Cooperative Development, Vasantha Samarasinghe; Mahawilachchiya Assistant Divisional Secretary, Hasini Yashara Hitibandara; Additional District Secretary of Anuradhapura, Shyamila Wickramasinghe; Wijeya Newspapers Chief Operations Officer, Janaka Ratna Kumara; Wijeya Newspapers Chairman, Ranjith Wijewardene; Chief Incumbent of Thanthirimale Rajamaha Viharaya and Deputy Chief Sanghanayaka of the North Eastern Province, Ven. Thanthirimale Chandarathana Thera; Ven. Eheatu Awe Jnanaloka Thera, a resident monk of Thanthirimale Rajamaha Viharaya; and Secretary of the Mahawilachchiya Sasana Rakshaka Bala Mandalaya and Chief Incumbent of Pemaduwa Rajamaha Viharaya, Ven. Pemaduwe Sumangala Thera.
