A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in Colombo recently between the Climate Vulnerable Forum and V20 (CVF-V20) and Genesis by Dilmah, an agri-entrepreneurship and sustainability innovation hub.

Dilhan C. Fernando, Chairman/CEO of Dilmah, and CVF Secretary General Mohamed Nasheed formalise a landmark MoU to advance sustainable agriculture and climate resilience in Sri Lanka.

The MoU aims to strengthen collaboration on sustainable agriculture and low-carbon technology strategies in Sri Lanka. The partnership is a significant step toward harnessing innovative, climate-smart solutions that build resilience in the country, as well as providing best practice examples for sharing and collaboration among CVF-V20 member countries, Dilmah said in a media release.

CVF is an inter-governmental organisation comprising of countries that are disproportionately affected by the consequences of climate change. Former President of the Maldive, Mohamed Nasheed, is the Secretary General of the CVF. With membership of over 70 countries, the purpose of the CVF is to channel input from the most vulnerable groups, creating new policies and promoting effective action on climate change as it evolves. The CVF has registered Climate Prosperity Plans in 20 member countries including Sri Lanka.

At the signing, Chairman / CEO of Dilmah Dilhan C. Fernando said, “The relationship between CVF and Genesis allows us to jointly identify, study and implement strategies that drive climate adaptation and mitigation, whilst aligning with UN SDG’s and the goals of the shareholder.”

Sara Jane Ahamed, Managing Director & V20 Finance Advisor, emphasised the importance of climate finance in CVF member countries as a means of attracting the required resources to fund climate action. CVF is engaging with the Government of Sri Lanka to assist them in accessing climate funding at a national level.
