Association of Local Stationery Manufacturers launched
View(s):The Association of Local Stationery Manufacturers (ALSM) was officially inaugurated this week, marking a significant milestone for Sri Lanka’s stationery sector, under the aegis of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
Speaking at the event, the Chamber CEO Buwanekabahu Perera emphasised the importance of the stationery industry, which, despite being fundamental to the nation’s education and literacy, is often overlooked in economic conversations. He stressed the need for collaboration over competition within the industry to foster innovation, reduce costs, and promote environmentally responsible manufacturing practices.
A chamber media release said the formation of ALSM is envisioned to provide local manufacturers with a strong and united voice, both within the private sector and in engagement with public policy, driving growth for the sector and national education alike.
Indrajith Binduhewa, the inaugural President of ALSM, highlighted that while Sri Lanka’s stationery manufacturing industry has operated for over six decades, this marks the first time stakeholders have come together on a unified platform. He emphasised that the industry plays an important role not only in commerce but in shaping the country’s educational foundations.
A key priority of the association, Mr. Binduhewa said, would be to advocate for the industry at a policy level. Looking ahead, he expressed confidence in the industry’s export potential, adding that with stronger collaboration and strategic support, Sri Lanka could emerge as a recognised exporter of quality stationery products.
