Chehan, Malsha, Dinura hit tons in drawn match
Tons by Chehan Subasinghe and skipper Malsha Tharupathi for Richmond, along with skipper Dinura Kalupahana for Mahinda, were the highlights of the drawn 119th Lovers’ Quarrel big match between Richmond College and Mahinda College concluded at the Galle International Stadium yesterday.
Subasinghe scored a century with five boundaries, while skipper Tharupathi slammed a quick-fire 111 off 76 balls, including 11 boundaries and four sixes. The pair shared a 149-run stand for the fifth wicket, helping Richmond recover from their overnight score of 53 for 3 to reach a total of 270 for 6 declared in reply to Mahinda’s 169 runs.
Later, Mahinda, batting for the second time, saw skipper Kalupahana making 124 runs, featuring 16 boundaries, and sharing an opening wicket stand of 172 runs with Tharusha Dilshan, who contributed 63 runs. Mahinda ended the day at 206 for 3.
