Former Pakistan paceman Aaqib Javed has been appointed as the national team Fast Bowling Coach by Sri Lanka Cricket up until the conclusion of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, slated to be held in the West Indies and USA in June.

Javed played 163 ODIs and 22 Test matches for Pakistan, and boasts a total of 236 international wickets. He was a pivotal member of Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup-winning team and has since ventured into coaching roles with various national teams.

His coaching journey includes serving as the bowling coach of Pakistan, coaching the UAE national team where they achieved ODI and T20I status and participated in the ICC Men’s 50 Over World Cup in 2015, and guiding Afghanistan in a developmental capacity.

“We warmly welcome Aaqib and believe that his immense international experience, both in playing and coaching, will help our bowlers come into good shape ahead of the upcoming major international competitions, such as the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” said Ashley de Silva, the CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket.
