The Attorney General’s Department will issue guidelines to the police on conducting investigations in compliance with law so that they can avoid unnecessarily getting embroiled in fundamental rights cases.

The decision was made at a discussion presided over by Attorney General Sanjay Rajaratnam and Public Security Minister Tiran Alles and attended by senior police officers.

To ensure better coordination between the AG’s Department and Police, Additional Solicitor General Haripriya Jayasundara has been appointed to liaise with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Terrorism Investigations Department (TID), while Senior Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris will handle police stations.
