Inaugural National Youth Wushu begins today

The finals of the inaugural National Youth Wushu Championship will begin today at the National Youth Sports Council Indoor Courts in Maharagama. The Taolu finals of age categories beginning from Under-12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 and finals of Sanda for Under-14, 16, 18 and 20 age categories will be held during the four days ending on May 17.

The National Youth Wushu Championship, which was held after a lapse of 12 years, covered the entire island and was held from February regionally before reaching the national stage. Competitions are set to begin from 10.00am daily and the top five finishers from district level in Taolu category at all five age groups will be eligible to compete in the final. In the sanda category, the top three finishers from districts will be eligible to participate. The national selectors will be present to pick potential athletes for the national squad that will train from June for the Asian Youth Wushu Championship to be held in China during August.
