A Cabinet paper on the manner in which students should be admitted to intermediary classes is due to be submitted, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.

He added that soon after Cabinet approval is received, a circular regarding the admission system will be issued, followed by a news advertisement in the form of an application.

Admission to intermediary classes (Grade 2-5 and Grade 7-10 was temporarily stopped last year until a proper system was put in place.

Parents who want to switch schools for their children for various reasons, including transfers or changing to a better school, will be able to apply.

The principals of schools will be able to decide on the number of children to be admitted to schools depending on the number of vacancies advertised.

He said that the ministry will not be issuing letters in respect of these students. The admission process will commence after next week. (DWI )
