The Education Ministry is to launch a pilot project to reduce the number of term tests per year and provide marks for their class room activities.

Accordingly only one term test will be held in 108 selected schools across the country for the pilot project, Prof Sunil Jayantha Nawarane, Director General of the National Institute of Education said.

Seventy per cent of the marks will be provided for class room activities by the classroom teacher, while 30 per cent of the marks will be given from a single term test.

The pilot project will last for nine months after the first term officially commences after April this year. If the scheme is successful it would be implemented across the country from next year.

The objective would be to reduce the school exams currently held. The scheme will first be tried out for classes between Grades 1, 6 and 10.

The students will be expected to carry out their classroom activities efficiently to obtain marks. For attendance too marks will be provided.
