The oral English language development programme for pre-school and grade 1 students has already begun, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said recently.

Several discussions with several internationally renowned institutes including the British council had been carried out, and a workbook had also been created for the students, he added.

He also said the Education Ministry had already planned to submit a Cabinet paper on the matter tomorrow (Monday).

The Ministry has also made plans to set up programmes to carry out activity based oral English education from Grade 01 onwards in 1156 primary and junior schools, during the first term next year.

“A training programme for trainers, English education directors and government officials began last week,” Minister Premajayantha said.

The North Central province resource providers were called for in house training sessions. Trainers who obtain knowledge under the sessions were scheduled to train 13,000 teachers who were teaching grade 01 classes, within the next three months.
