The Education Ministry has recruited 198 National College of Education (NCOE) graduates to teach religious subjects in national and provincial schools this year.

Accordingly this year, 82 graduates were appointed to national schools and 116 to provincial schools.

However Ministry statistics indicated that 65 teacher vacancies for teachers in Buddhism,  Hinduism, Islam, Roman Catholicism and Christianity still existed in national and provincial schools around the country.

Accordingly national schools had 47 vacancies, including 29 vacancies for teachers in Islam, four in Christianity and seven each in  Roman Catholicism and  Hinduism.

Provincial schools had 18 vacancies as at September 2020, with 12 vacancies  for teachers in Buddhism, three in Islam and three in Roman Catholicism.

However there was an excess of 52 teachers in all provinces including 43 teachers in Christianity and nine teachers in Hinduism.
