Diploma in Laboratory Technology (DLT) is the oldest and most renowned program in Sri Lanka that produce professionally qualified Laboratory Technicians annually. This successful programme will be enrolling its 48th batch for the year 2021.

Students who have successfully completed this course conducted by the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon are currently employed in many well-known chemical, analytical and medical laboratories in Sri Lanka as well as worldwide. Laboratories of Most of the well-known private hospitals are providing opportunities in employing our students at an increasing rate.

This is a two year course which includes both theory and practical sessions. The first year covers basic chemistry subjects as well as Management, IT & Statistics and in the second year students can specialize in either in Food & Material Technology or Clinical Laboratory Technology according to their preference.

The students who are following the Food and material Technology stream will be covering modules such as Food Chemistry, Processing, & Analysis, Industrial Chemistry, Fundamental of Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Petroleum, Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Technology.

Similarly, the students specializing in Clinical Laboratory Technology will learn in depth of areas covering Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology, Parasitology, Histopathology, Cytology, Toxicology and Molecular Diagnostics.

Students following both the streams will follow a module on Quality assurance and Accreditation as well as should follow compulsory six months training at a laboratory related to their field of specialization.

Applications are now open for the academic year of 2020/2022. Those having six passes at GCE Ordinary Level including at least credit pass in Mathematics and Science with proficiency in English are eligible to follow the Diploma in Laboratory Technology.

Students who successfully complete this course will be eligible to work as laboratory technicians in laboratories and also will be eligible to register to follow the Graduateship in Chemistry course conducted by the Institute of Chemistry itself.

All the lectures and practical sessions are conducted in the English medium, therefore having a sound knowledge in English is compulsory.

Organisations which provide opportunities to enroll more than 10 applicants will be offered with special discount rate. Also, there is freedom to pay in instalments.
