The University Grants Commission (UGC) has extended the validity period of the advertisements for academic, executive and academic support posts at universities to March 31 this year.

In a letter to all vice chancellors, campus rectors and institute directors, the UGC Chairman Sampath Amaratunge said they had been receiving repeated requests from higher educational institutions to extend the validity period of advertisements, due to delays in staff selections caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Accordingly, the UGC had decided to extend the validity period of advertisements for the academic, executive and academic support posts to March 31, subject to the condition that such an extension was applicable only for advertisements of which the expiration of the initial validity period falls on or after October 1, 2020.

The UGC had instructed universities and other higher educational institutes to finalise staff selections within the extended validity period.
