The Education Ministry has sent letters to all school authorities asking them to stop holding functions in schools that would threaten health protocols that have to be followed due to the escalating threat of COVID-19 in the country.

Education Ministry Secretary Kapila Perera has sent letters to all provincial education directors, zonal education directors divisional education authorities,  heads of pirivena schools and school principals to stop holding march pasts, musical shows, concerts and other similar events in schools.

Except for co-curricular activities relevant to education other functions should be avoided, the letter said.

The directive comes in the wake of the Education Ministry receiving several complaints about schools holding various functions disregarding COVID-19 health guidelines.

Prof. Perera called on all those in charge to act responsibly and avoid exposing students to the infection.
