Cabinet has approved distribution of laptops to 665 schools sans computer labs, a Ministry of Education (MoE) official said.

The schools will be selected from the 9 Provinces, with 15,445 laptops distributed before year’s end.

Rs 2 billion has been allocated for the project in 2019, and will be continued for the next 3 years.

Under the plan, 48,486 laptops will be issued next year, followed by 47,796 laptops in 2021 and 47,244 laptops in 2022.

The system has been introduced to enable students improve their Information Technology skills in view of the demand for the subject.

The MoE will provide facilities to provide charging points for the laptops, with facilities also provided to schools which do not have electricity.

The schedule is as follows: Less than 2 students- 2 laptops, 11-15 students- 3 laptops, 16-20 students- 4 laptops, 21-100 students- 5 laptops, 101-200 students- 10 laptops, 201-250 students- 15 laptops and 251-300 students- 25 laptops.
