The Brandix College of Clothing Technology (BCCT), a subsidiary of leading apparel manufacturer, Brandix Lanka Ltd., has been offering pioneering clothing technology education since 1996, catering to school-leavers aspiring to embark on a career in the clothing industry, as well as those employed aiming to enhance their knowledge and skillset.

BCCT’s curriculum is segmented into two key areas; namely, industry-based training for newcomers and industry-oriented training for industry personnel, offering a consummate learning experience to create a pool of specialised professionals to innovate and lead the way in the industry.

To meet this need, over 100 specialised technical courses are made available to students at BCCT, ranging from Fabric Technology to Merchandising, Advanced Pattern Making, Production Management to Sewing Machinery skills, to name a few.

Opportunities in the Industry

In December 2018, Sri Lanka’s ready-made garments industry crossed the USD 5 billion milestone, a first for the island nation. Over the past four decades, the industry has been a dynamic contributor to Sri Lanka’s economy and has evolved into becoming Sri Lanka’s primary export foreign exchange earner.

As a result, the industry has paved way for many employment opportunities through the creation of a large domestic eco-system, by way of its manufacturing operations, design and technical expertise, and external service providers to ensure a seamless flow of quality production to local and global clientele. The continued upward trajectory of the industry in Sri Lanka reaffirms the generation of more career opportunities for those entering or seeking to progress in this arena, making it an ideal path for success.

Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in collaboration with RMIT

In line with BCCT’s aim to hone the skills of aspiring industry professionals, the College also runs a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree programme in collaboration with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University (RMIT), one of the oldest and most respected educational institutes in Australia.

This comprehensive programme is designed to provide school-leavers with an excellent foundation to enable accelerated development within the industry, and mould them into fully-fledged professionals of the future. BCCT’s innovative methods of teaching, learning, research and networking with the clothing industry have proven to be effective and has, as a result, led to a high success rate over the past two decades.

The first two years of the Degree programme incorporates IT, Textile Technology and Clothing Technology while the final year covers Management subjects. In the final year, students are encouraged to work while learning, as industry exposure helps students to broaden their horizons and train them to adapt to a professional work culture.

Diploma Programmes for School-Leavers & Industry Personnel

Additionally, BCCT runs two part-time Diploma programmes, each with a one-year duration for industry personnel. The College Diploma in Clothing Manufacturing Management is designed for Executives and includes Management and Technical subjects, while the Associate Diploma in Clothing Manufacturing is aimed at front-line middle managers in the industry.

School-leavers aspiring to enter the apparel and fashion arena can get an early start by pursuing a full-time two-year College Diploma in Fashion Merchandising and Retailing facilitated by BCCT.

This course is presently being evaluated by a foreign university in Europe with the aim of extending it up to a Degree level.

BCCT additionally conducts College Certificate level specific technical courses relating to clothing manufacturing. Some of these include Work Study, Product Development, Merchandising, Quality Control, Production Management, amongst others.

A Conducive Environment for your Education

The Brandix College of Clothing Technology offers modern training equipment and laboratories equipped with the latest technology. As such, BCCT students are encouraged to frequently use the facilities provided to them to finetune and hone their knowledge and skills. Further, they are also granted access to one of the largest libraries in the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University in Australia.

In addition to the theoretical and practical knowledge given to students at the College premises, they are further enriched with optimal training opportunities that enable hands-on experience at leading apparel factories, given them a first-hand glimpse into the making of a garment.

Career development and simulation programmes are also an inclusive part of the students’ learning experience. As a result, students are inspired to further enhance their skills and focus on personal development that will undoubtedly add value to their lives.
