The 12th International Research Conference (IRC) on ‘Challenges to Humankind in the face of new Technologies’, with the aim of offering focused and in-depth discussions on a number of selected topics, together with plenary and technical sessions under several main topics and disciplines, was held on September 11-12, at the KDU, Ratmalana.

KDU, which has been in the forefront of Tertiary Education in Sri-Lanka for over 3 decades hosted their 12th IRC, which featured pre-conference workshops on discussions on several related subjects, as well as plenary and technical sessions on topics and disciplines under the following themes.

Defence & Strategic Studies (with participation of local and international military personnel as well as civil intellectuals), Engineering (Electrical, Electronic & Telecommunication, Biomedical, Civil, Mechanical, Aeronautical and Marine Engineering), Computing (Computer & Information Technology), Medicine (Pre/para & Clinical areas), Basic & Applied Sciences (Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Agriculture, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry), Allied Health Sciences (Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science, Pharmacy, Radiology and Physiotherapy), Law (Public & International Law, Private & Comparative Law, Commercial & Military Law), Management/Social Sciences & Humanities (Management, Social Sciences, Language, Political Science & Economics), Built Environment and Spatial Sciences (Architecture, Landscaping, Quantity Surveying & Surveying).

Director of Centre for Cybercrime & Security Innovation (CCSI) in the School of Law, Criminal Justice and Computing at Canterbury Christ Church University in the United Kingdom, Professor Abhaya Induruwa was the Key-note speaker an internationally recognized
Sri-Lankan expert possessing immense knowledge on the research theme (considered as the founder of Internet in Sri-Lanka), currently serving as the where he leads research into security and forensic investigation of Internet of Things (IoT).

The respective conference attracted more than 500 papers, 1000 authors and exceeding of 2000 participants from diversified fields the world over each year and it is therefore a platform for prominant individuals from both military and civil backgrounds in disseminating their knowledge. KDUIRC is one of the largest International Conference’s held in the country and also the only Conference where both the Military and the Civil Researchers are brought together.

General Sir John Kotelawela Defence University is one of the leading Universities in Sri-Lanka which is also the only University offering Graduate Courses in Defense Studies in the region of South Asia.
