Young NarenMuralitharan is showing signs of following the footsteps of his father, the legend MuttiahMuralitharan, with his excellent achievements during the last year. In a recent game, representing Gateway College Colombo, in the All Island Schools Under 15 tournamentconducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association, Naren scored back to back centuries – 162 not out against Ananda Shastralaya, Kotte and 105 not out against Zahira College Maradana.

Last year,as the skipper of the Under 13 Gateway College team, Naren grabbed all major trophies at the Inter International School tournament. The awards included the Player of the tournament, the Best Batsman of the Tournament and the Best Bowler of the Tournament. During the tournament he accumulated 366 runs with centuries against Stafford International School and OKI International School. He also scored 93 not out against CIS.

Naren is also turning out to be a good off spinner. During the tournament, he grabbed 11 wickets with the best figures of 6 for 25 against Gateway College Kandy.

Naren’s teammates, GovinVinwath, ZamilMoulana, Jaden Amaraweera, Dulain Pereraand Mohamed Jassim too have performed well during the recent games. Govin’s 40 runs & the figures of 6 for 32 against Zahira and Jassim’s 69 against Ananda Shastralaya were noteworthy achievements.
