Induction Ceremony of the 82nd President and Annual Dinner of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon

Professor Priyani Paranagama the Director, Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo and Chair and Senior Professor, Department of Chemistry, University of Kelaniya was inducted as the 82nd President of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon at a ceremony held on 28th June 2019 at the Golden Rose, Boralasgamuwa.

The chief guest for the event was Professor Ajit M Abeysekera, Professor Emeritus, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. His charming wife Dr Manel Abeysekera too graced the occasion.  Professor Neelakanthie Gunawardene, Director Semiochem Lanka (Pvt) Ltd was present at the occasion as a special guest. Professor Priyani Paranagama’s husband Mr Susantha Paranagama and family were present at the ceremony to witness one of the most important milestones in her career.

The ceremony was held with the participation of more than 100 distinguished invitees including Council members, Past Presidents and members of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon, academic and non-academic staff members of the College of Chemical Sciences of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon, alumni of the College of Chemical Sciences, academics of University of Kelaniya and well-wishers. Past Presidents of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon had their Annual General Meeting prior to the induction ceremony. The annual dinner of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon followed the induction ceremony. It was a wonderful evening for the guests who mingled with colleagues over dinner and music.

A new chapter has unfolded in the history of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon under the excellent guidance and leadership of Professor Priyani Paranagama. We wish her all the very best to take the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon to greater heights during the year ahead.
