MAC Holdings partners Science College Rugby to nurture talent

MAC Holdings Private Limited takes pride in announcing of being the main sponsor for the 2019 rugby season for Science College, Mount Lavinia. MAC Holdings pledged its support for a three-year period in view of supporting rugby of a promising team that competes in the ‘A’ Division with acute shortcomings of resources, yet, has always been producing some brilliant players for
Sri Lanka.
At the occasion of officially handing over the sponsorship to the Principal of Science College, the Chairman of MAC Holdings, Andre Fernando went on to say, “Just like our humble beginnings, we see a resemblance at Science College rugby. They have demonstrated their rugby prowess since its promotion to ‘A’ Division in 2010 and have upped the talent contribution to the country. Sadly, lack of financial support affected the school immensely and retaining talent within the school has been threatened due to player drafting practice by other schools. MAC Holdings believe that the support extended would help Science College to nurture and retain the talent and sustain as a formidable force”.
The Principal of Science College, Susantha Mendis, applauded the gesture shown by MAC Holdings for coming forward to support rugby and hoped that this would ease the burden off the sport governing body, Science College Rugby Support Group.
He went on to say, “This may not be comparable with the kind of sponsorships garnered by other ‘A’ Division schools but certainly making a big impact in our budget that is the smallest with the best ROI”.
Science College, started playing rugby nearly 40 years back and known for playing open, fast rugby and has been making an impact in schools arena. Having produced two national captains and countless of national and club players, Science College is the only government school under the purview of a Provincial Council that plays in the top division.
