Red Sun SC beat National United SC on penalties to win the Sisil World 9-a-side Football Championship held at the Zahira ground in Gampola. On their way to the final from a total of 15 teams, Red Sun SC beat Silver Star SC by 3-0 while National United had a narrow shave against Red Sun Veterans 1-0 in the semi-finals.

The final clash ended in a scoreless draw which prompted the match officials to go for a penalty tie breaker which went in favour of Red Sun SC. In addition to the main trophy Red Sun won a cash award of Rs. 20,000 while runners-up National United walked away with a cash reward of Rs. 10,000.

The tournament was conducted by the Gampola Football League to coincide with the ongoing FIFA World Cup being held in Brazil. SSP Gamini Perera of the Gampola Police Division graced the occasion as the chief guest.
