pace and skill, to roll to a 50 (5 goals, 3 tries)- 3 (one penalty) rout in one of a number of Western Province Under 16 fifteen-a-side Rugby League Tournament fixtures, played out yesterday at the Science College grounds.

St. John’s toyed with Ananda from the outset, blitzing them with dynamite sprints down the wings and pinpoint passing across the center of the field. St. John’s bullied their way across the line for their opening two tries before exploiting Ananda’s lax defending with some supreme pace to have them trailing 24-0 by halftime.

They continued their assault in the second half, pilfering points at will to steam ahead to a half century. The only redeeming factor about Ananda’s performance was a penalty which came on the stroke of full time, but this will do little to soothe their bruised egos.

In some of the other games of the day, Prince of Wales College had to fight hard to hold off Lalith Athulathmudali College after slotting home a solitary penalty, while Mahanama College thrashed Carey College 19 (2 goals, 1 tries)- 0 to join Lumbini, who belted St. Benedict’s College 17 (2 goals, 1 penalty)-0, on the list of teams who walked away with one-sided victories.
