Sri Lanka Junior Women’s Volleyball team entered the super eight of the on going 17th Junior Asian Women’s Volleyball championship in Chinese Taipei on Friday.

Facing the strong Iran team in the second match of the main round the Sri Lankan lasses trounced the Iranians 3-1 to book a slot in the Super eight round. In the first round the Sri Lankans were beaten by the hosts Chinese Taipei (3-0).

15 Asian nations are taking part in the tourney.

At the 15th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championships held in Iran in 2011 the Sri Lanka Senior Men’s Volleyball team qualified for the Super Eight finals, but this is the first time that a Sri Lanka Women’s Volleyball team has qualified to play in the Super Eight creating history in Sri Lanka women’s Volleyball.

Sri Lanka will meet Japan and India in the next round.
