The Kaijie Speed Championships jointly conducted by the Sri Lanka Motorcycle Club, Negombo MSC and Nuwara Eliya MSC and

Jaden Gunawardena won the Group M STD Modified 175-250cc event

sponsored by Leader Group which was held at Kanway Racing Track in Mirigama saw the novices negotiating the tricky track with success. The meet exclusively conducted for aspiring novices looking forward to go for greater heights in the motorcycle and motorcar races proved to be of great benefit for those who participated.

Apart from motorcycle and motorcar events for novices, there were supporting events that were held in both the categories with some of the top riders and drivers in action.

The novices bike events were won by K.D.S. Malshan and D.S.J. Gunawardena while the sole novices car event the SL-N Ford Laser/Mazda event was won by Shenal Gunawardena.

The support events of both the categories saw two riders, young Aaron Gunawardena and Jeff Andre Chi, landing a double each in the motor bike events while Aaron’s brother Jaden was successful in winning one.

Well known figures in the motor racing fraternity Maduranga Caldera, Ananda Wedisinghe, Suraj Perera were the other successful riders while Susantha Gunawardena, Ushan Perera, Hashen Peiris were three of the successful drivers.

(1) Motorcycle Group O Standard (Novices) over 100 up to 125cc (4Stroke): 1. K.D.S. Malshan(Yamaha Libero 105cc). 2. Sampath Jayasinghe (Bajaj CT100cc). 3. K.A.S. Wickramaratne (Yamaha YBR125cc).

(2) Motorcycle Group O Standard (Novices) over 125cc up to 180cc (4Stroke): 1. D.S.J. Gunawardena (Bajaj). 2. Kanishka Silva (Bajaj). 3. Iran Chandrakumara (Bajaj).

(3) Motorcycle Group O Standard Yamaha One Make over 125cc up to 160cc (4Stroke): 1. Nimesha Fernando (Yamaha F2-150cc). 2. Eranda Sampath (Yamaha F2-150cc). 3. Royston Quiyn (Yamaha F2-150cc).

(4) Motorcycle Group O Standard Bajaj Pulsar One Make over 125 up to 160cc (4Stroke): 1. Sampath Weerasinghe (Bajaj Pulsar150cc). 2. Roshan Chamara (Bajaj Pulsar135cc). 3. Ganeshan Vijekumar (Bajaj Pulsar135cc).

(5) Motorcycle Group O Standard Demak One Make over 125 up to 160cc (4Stroke): 1. Jeff Andre Chi (Demak DTM150cc). 2. Prekshana Beligala (Demak DTM150cc). 3. Pandula Hettiarachchi (Demak DTM150cc).

(6) Motorcycle Group SM Super Motard Open including 250 up to 1100cc: 1. Kasun Sudasinghe (Honda CRF450cc). 2. Suraj Perera (YamahaYZ250cc). 3. Ananda Wedisinghe (Yamaha YZF450cc).

(7) Motorcycle Group M STD Modified 600cc (4Stroke): 1. Maduranga Caldera (Yamaha R6-600cc). 2. Yohan Waduge (Yamaha R6-600cc). 3. Dimuthu de Silva (Honda CBR600cc).

Ushan Perera won the Group SL-N Standard 1000cc eventt.
