Jehan, Aminda guide Joes to fourth win
View(s):A 70-run partnership for the eighth wicket between Jehan Fernandopulle (50n.o.) and Aminda de Alwis (17) helped St. Joseph’s defeat Isipathana by 60 runs in an All-Island Under-15 Division I cricket game played at Darley Road.
Winning the toss and batting first, the Josephians were struggling at 118 for 7 in the 29th over before Fernandopulle and de Alwis came together and added a useful 70 runs to take the Darley Road school to a challenging total of 195 for 8 in 50 overs.
Fernandopulle top scored and remained unbeaten on 50 with the aid of seven boundaries.
Isipathana skipper Sanjula Abeywickrema (35) hit three sixes and two boundaries and led the visitor’s reply but received little support from his colleagues as the Josephians bundled the opponents out for 135 runs in the 44th over to record their fourth win in the tournament.
Meanwhile Jehan Daniel struck a breezy 67 in just 33 balls inclusive of nine boundaries and three sixes as St. Joseph’s beat Dharmapala Pannipitiya by 94 runs in a rain restricted 28-over game at Darley Road. St. Joseph’s scored 176 for 8 wickets in 28 overs and restricted Dharmapala to 82 for 5 wickets.
