The ABA Men and Women Boxing Meet which ended at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium saw pugilists from the Army and MAS Holdings dominating the proceedings at the five day meet.

Army came out on top in the men’s category when they bagged four gold’s and three silver medals while the MAS Holdings ladies grabbed eight gold’s and three silver medals in the women’s category.

Two pugilists from the Army K.G. Padmasiri and W.M.D.D.K. Weerabahu were adjudged the best boxers in the men’s and women’s category while R.M.M.K. Bandara of Navy and K.M.D. Sajani of MAS Holdings took the best losers awards.

The novices meet organized by the ABA saw 245 boxers in action representing 20 clubs comprising of 193 in the men and 52 in the women’s with the majority of pugilists coming from the Army, Police and MAS Holdings. – MSA
