The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has initiated a special programme to save consumers from fraudulant issues they would come across at the marketplace during the forthcoming New Year season.

The programme which started on March 10, will continue till April 10, with the CAA’s district representatives including from the Colombo headquarters, intensively engaged in the inspection of retail shops and warehouses during the period.

Making vendors aware of fraudulent groups who misuse the CAA’s name to collect money, ensuring that traders follow regulations prescribed by the CAA Act, while making them aware of those rules, paying special attention to mobile vendors and special new-year sales, preventing outdated and adulterated consumer goods from entering the market, and to prevent hoarding of essential consumer items, were among the objectives of implementing the special programme.

Consumers are also requested to lodge complaints regarding unfair trade practices including pricing, warranty, misleading and providing cheap goods, to the following numbers: 011 7 755 481-3, Fax: 011 2 399 148, E-mail chairmancaa@slt.lk or to, Director General, CAA, 27, Vauxhall street, Colombo 2.
